kissing vs pissing

Ever so often, I indulge myself with chick flicks and romantic comedies because they are such escapes from reality. And my whole idea of watching movies is to do so. (i do watch ‘serious’ movies too but i’d still watch Kung Fu Panda any day)

Anyways, my bootleg Sex and the City 2 dvd was calling out to me on Sunday afternoon. Dust had collected on it. Since, I wasn’t feeling too well to go out on my one and only day off, I decided to suck it up and stay home. Besides, the clouds weren’t looking too good because of which my screen print also failed. But I think the latter was also due to my own hastiness.

The four girls (hmm…names..) go on a trip to Abu Dhabi in this version. Samantha, the one who is a nymphomaniac (for the lack of a better decent word) gets arrested for kissing on the beach with a man in the conservative muslim society. blah blah..so and so forth…the consequences unfold. they are back in the states. end of story.

A few days later, I was walking to office from Ratna Park – this isn’t a sight I haven’t seen before and nor is it a topic that hasn’t been talked about – a man peeing into Tundhikhel, through the green railings, at Shahid Gate, which is the zero point of Kathmandu i.e. from where all measurements begin.

Doesn’t it piss you off when men piss around wherever and whenever they feel like it? Just because they can stand and pee doesn’t give them the privilege to do so in public. And for heaven’s sake, the green conspicuous mobile toilet is only around the corner, a maximum walk of 3 minutes. And what happened to all the posters on ‘let’s use a toilet’ awareness thing to prevent diseases, stuck on the railings of Tundikhel, a few months back. All efforts flushed away.

I hate to say this, but many Nepali men are truly uncivilized and they should get arrested for pissing in public. Seriously, they should.

Now get this, in the movie, only Samantha is arrested for the sexually offensive act whereas the dude walks away free.

UH, HELLO!

  1. I CONCURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

i wanted to start a campaign back in the day “pebbles for pee” –> http://www.nepaliketi.net/2010/02/06/campaigns-without-a-cause/

i get we have a shortage of (clean) bathroom facilities that ought to dot our city, but i don’t see women lifting their skirts in ratna park, tundikhel, thamel, jawalakehl or most anywhere else in ktm nearly as freely as the men do. granted the sexism associated with “decent” women hinders her desire (erm, need) to relieve herself, but there’s a point here … few bathrooms in the city but you don’t see women drowning this city with piss. hence, pebbles for peeing. you in? remember, if you’re not for us you are against us.

also, (while i’m not writing my paper which is due in 24hours) i recall a lovely line from a not-too-recent republica article about pda … (and i paraphrase) an interviewee asks what’s with being harassed/arrested for kissing when there’s nothing for pissing. MY POINT EXACTLY!

  2. ok! this is a real n i laughed my heart out…her it goes. it was jsut another usual day when i was waiting for my micro bus to lazimpat for work, then on the other side of new road gate, just across the overhead bridge i see a man about to take a leak , the to his surprise frm the side the come a kuhire dude Running, packed with his SLR camera with big ass lens zooming towards this guy “thing”…. seeing this the guy quickly pull his pants up n zips his fly ….embarrassed with his act he smiles at the kuhire dude , say sorry to him and leaves…. i laughed ..n then an idea click why not put up a hidden public cam at these place and broadcast or publish a pic at the next day in the news paper or in the tv. CAPTION “Smile u are on camera”…
